Okay! This thread goes out to all the seasoned AT Pro veterans working the beaches. Going to the coast in Atlantic City in a week with my brand new AT Pro. Trying to get familiarized with it as best as I can beforehand. But, can anyone share what generic settings I can use in the wet and in the water to give me the best chance for success? I know that you have to do a ground balance going from the dry to the wet and back each time.

Whatever advice I can get is much appreciated.

Thanks

It is probably to late to tell you that it will false like crazy in the wet sand and if you insist to hunt the wet you'll probably end up cussing me out for ruining your trip. There are some beaches that it can be used, but for many reasons others use detectors with more than one frequency. You got suckered in to buying into the advertisement that it is a beach detector but they left out the fine print. Keep the sens low and try to ignore the faint buzzing and chirps. Keep the Disc under pull tap or you it won't sound off on gold rings. You will still have fun in the dry sand as it will work well there. Good Luck. You'll have better luck in the casinos or dry sand.

He has a personal vendetta against the AT pro...He doesn't know how to set his up...he tries to use pro mode in the salt like so many other people do and they cant get the AT PRO to run stable...Garrett doesn't advertise the AT as a saltwater detector, in fact the manual says although it isn't designed for the salt, it can be set up to use in salt...you didn't get suckered...unless you listen to Sandman. I gave you the settings to use in your other thread...good luck.

Lookindown, you totally missed the point again. I know how to set the AT Pro up. You forget that your in Florida where the sand has very little minimization. Rockyredbaron wanted to know about Atlantic City coast where the conditions are far different. If you traveled some you'd have more experience at other locations. Max is in that area and he won't use the AT Pro. I just don't like people to waste money when they read some thing is a beach detector. Read my signature again.:coffee2:

Yes, we know there are better detectors for saltwater, I have a CZ21. Rocky didn't buy his AT pro for a saltwater only machine. He is going to Atlantic City on vacation and asked for help using his AT pro. No reason for you to tell him he got SUCKERED. You keep saying that Garrett advertises the AT pro as a saltwater detector and that's not true. They advertise it as an ALL TERRAIN detector, that's what the AT stands for. If you dont like the AT PRO that's fine but why make false statements and call someone a sucker for buying a detector? Every time someone asks for help with the AT pro you bash the detector and try to make them feel like they shouldn't have bought one. They are not asking which detector to buy for saltwater, they are asking for help with one they already own. You should read your signature and ask yourself why you waste your time bashing a detector that so many people like.

Okay gents...

I'm not here to start a war between you all...LOL

I've done a good amount of research before committing to the AT PRO. I've also watched a good of videos to know that this machine will work in the ocean and in the wet. But I do know the Atlantic City beaches and have put my MXT to the test on them 4 years ago and believe me it was a real challenge. Did get a bit frustrated in the wet but the dry worked great. Below was the result. I'll take my chances guys. Thanks for your inputs as they are much appreciated.

If you google atp the ad from garrett says ideal for fresh or saltwater which sounds like they are saying it is an ideal saltwater detector to me.

Lookindown, it is the Garrett advertisements and the sponsored video's that portray the AT Pro as a beach machine. That's like saying a Chevy Impala can go rock climbing. White's says their water detectors have coils that are "Neutral Buoyant" when they float. That is not a problem for some, but why try to mislead customers? I mean no disrespect.

They didn't mislead me or the people in all the different states where it does work well in the salt. Everyone that has trouble with it falsing always say they were in pro mode...mine will not run stable at all in pro mode in the salt. Standard mode will go deep but some people refuse to use it.

I think everyone agrees that not all detectors work well in all locations. That being said, why does there seem to be such a following of AT Pro users at first and many used sales on Ebay and Craig's List? You said there are other detectors that were better suited to salt conditions so why aren't you using one? You should use your CZ-21 more.

I tend to get over zealous in what many call bashing when i think of it as trying to get people to read between the lines of detector advertisements..

Ive used my CZ21 in the salt ever since the day I got it. Ive never used my AT PRO in the salt since I got the CZ because the CZ is about two inches deeper. The AT is my land and freshwater machine now. If someone asked which detector to buy exclusively for salt hunting, I would tell them to get a CZ21 or an Excal. These people are on here asking how to set up their AT pros for salt hunting because they already have an AT pro. No need to tell them they have been suckered and make them feel like they shouldn't have bought an AT pro. Some people only get to go to the beach once or twice a year and use their AT pro on land the rest of the year. They can always buy a dedicated salt waster machine if they find they like water hunting. That's what I did. The reason there are so many At pros for sale is simply because so many have been sold. Its the number one selling detector in America. Just because you see a lot of a certain model of used cars for sale doesn't mean they are bad...it means a lot are being sold new.

Sandman, I do believe you have good intentions and if you don't like a detector its your right to say you don't like it.

I would venture to guess it's because of the show Diggers then when folks get it they don't know how to use it properly and give up when they don't find the HUGH treasures and sell it soon after ... :dontknow:

Me personally, I love my AT Gold they are wonderful machines once learned how to use and I have since traded my Fisher F5 for an AT Pro for my GF to use

I only got mine because I liked Garrett, it seemed easy to use ... And I will admit the the stash of coins Beau (Aquachigger) found helped..lol.

Because at the time, i was actually hunting an old river bed, and thought it was a good fit...But after the first Copperhead I saw, I decided to stick to land

As for the show Diggers, I do think alot of people went out and got them for that reason. But not me...its funny cause i watch that show and think "Damn, they never find Shii!"..lol...Somtimes they do find some stuff, but most the time it seems like the really dont find anything.

Now Rick Savage...a whole other story..lol

I got the AT Gold from watching MD'ing videos on YouTube and trying to get a handle on a good easy to use machine and the Garrett seemed to be the one and I've been nothing but happy since I bought it ... my GF liked the way the Fisher F5 looked and thought it would be a good one for her BUT alas she had a hard time coming to grips with it so that's why the AT Pro is now for her. She liked the AT Gold I had and how easy it was to operate ( for the most part ) so she wanted an AT Pro ...

Yeah, if anything the show Diggers lets people know that you cant get rich doing this. They rarely find anything of great value. Treasure Net shows things of great value posted daily.
