Went to a old homesite I found on an old plat book from mid 1800s and found site because detector was going crazy with all the iron grunts. It's a plowed field now but full of iron and brass. Dug some iron and brass to see what was there and couldn't tell by what I was finding. It was very muddy so was going to come back when it dries a bit then got a iron hit on way out with a high broken tone. I decided to dig and out came square nails so wasn't surprised so I swung over hole again and high tone. Put pin pointer in and out comes a coin. I knew rite away it was a half cent due to its size and thickness so waited till I got home to run under water. It's soaking in olive oil now but it's a 1832 us half cent and that makes my 3rd half cent ever so very excited. The at gold VDI was 76 to 79 but very consistent. Thanks for looking. Congratulations! And welcome to the half cent club.
Half cents were never really popular, and they weren't minted every year. 1832 was a very low mintage year....only 55,000. I found one year before last in a farm field, but it's not in as good condition as yours.

Sry pics aren't real good but when it dries it will still have the green patina and the details are better now. I'll put it with its big brother the 1834 us large cent I found in a field in November. Good luck everyone. I love the old coppers almost as much as old silver. With dates like that may be some seated or bust silver in those sites.

Way to go, EJ! Using all metal to find the concentration of iron is a great tool in fields and pastures.

Sweet coin Kodiak! I wish our fields had something decent in them.
