who told you that :tongue3:

I used EL foil inserted between LCD and LCD-pad

I "stolen" signal when you chose F1 or F3 it is easiest way for me to turn on backlight becouse I wanted to see if there is the possibility of the turn ON backlight without use of additional external switch (waterproof) the effect is satisfactorily for me

Signal -> mosfet(on-off switch) ->inverter ->EL foil

How much power/time did you lose due to the inverter?
Is there much battery life loss?

Normal garrett power consumption is 70mA / with backlight is 110mA
for example if you normal hunt 16h ( depending on the setting and terms) on one battery pack / with the backlight battery live is around 12h

Very nice Gatp! That's about the closest to factory backlighting as you can get.

Hmmm One could set up shop and convert 10,000 ATPs as a busness. What would you think a fair cost would be ???

If i have 10,000 ATP's I would have done it differently .........it would be easier to mount , less power consumption and cheaper than a this solution.

Ok// If you set up to make this mod. what would you expect to charge ??

Or you could just wear a headlamp if you really want to night hunt. Nice mod though

I'll stick with a head lamp, I don't want to chance letting all of the smoke out of one of the components!:laughing7:

ogoat I know what you mean about letting the magic smoke out of the components :) I have done it may times working on older arcade and pinball machines...I prefer not to kill my detector as well.

I wish garrett would just get their **** together and start installing back lights . They're the only major company that doesn't do this.
