Hey all

Wondering if anyone has ever ran into this? Ill try and be short. A year and a half ago I did my DNA on an ex's account. Got my DNA results and had mixed emotions but it was what it was. Here we are today and I decide to look at my DNA however since me and my girlfriend back then are split she decided to have all the information deleted. So I call and explain I PAID for it with my credit card but it was on her account. They apologized and sent me a new kit. It became a debacle as they sent her emails on how it was progressing. What a mess. I FINALLY got it sorted out {kinda} and was able to redo my DNA. I get the results with Latino ethnicity mixed in with my Celtic. I WAS EXCITED.. 32 % !!! I started trying to find out in my tree where it originated from and a month later went back into the DNA results and BAM GONE !!!!!! It was exactly like the one I had done a year and a half ago which only showed my Celtic heritage.?? I also noticed a month ago when I got the results it detailed what counties in Ireland and cities in Scotland, that was gone as well.. I called and explained and was told unless I had a screen shot they did not see where this had ever happened ?? Im not happy and now dont know what to believe...

i think its a bad idea in general to be sending dna out to a private company that keeps it on record and does what they please with the info....

late to the party...those kits and companies are notoriously inaccurate. Me and my two sisters all had it done at the same time and (yes same father and mother for sure!) and all three came back completely different. Like not even in the same family different.

As has been said it's a Really Bad Idea to give your DNA to a company like that.

If you didn't see 60minutes or Dateline the other nite watch it. I can't remember which one but it was within the last week.

None of its private.

[h=1]aHere is my timeline so far on Ancestry. I just ordered my DNA kit, so that I can smooth the process of joining the Sons of the American Revolution, as well as my sons and daughters (Daughters of the American Revolution). I want to be as positive as possible about my bloodline, and this is a very inexpensive way to do it. I was quoted $5,600.00 to verify my family tree - Wow!

I trust Ancestry DNA, my only concern is that after I get mine done a woman seeking money, scam-artist? So she could, "definitively prove she and I have the same grand father." I do not trust her attempt to tell me she figured out he cheated on grandma and had her now deceased mother will come back to bother me once again.

All of these DNA labs are playing with statistics. Your DNA analysis only gives them a very general idea of where your ancestors came from. The rest is done by statistical analysis of the people from that region. If, say, the DNA shows that you had ancestors that came from central Europe, they know by statistics that the , say, 25% of the people from Central Europe are of Russian origin, 15% are German, etc (obviously, I'm pulling those percentages out of thin air). They can NOT tell you exactly where your ancestors came from, but they can give you the odds.

(and in my family tree, there are enough odds already)

...ah hell, I can do THAT by looking in the mirror!

Traced mine back to early 1100s so far, turned out one of my ancestors is King John and one of his mistresses, you know the bad king in Robin Hood stories, King Richard's brother, of all the kings I could have been related to, it had to be King John.:dontknow:

....mine takes me back to Odin and a frost giant... so take it with a grain of salt. However I will say that once you find that royal in the woodshed (and we ALL have them you can bet) the whole world of genealogy blasts off. the royals and the aristocracy kept real good records of who was marrying who.
