If it matters the Tesoro is essentially new (new purchase in 08/10) and the Whites is many years old but in good shape.

I'd say it depends on your level of experience.

If you've been detecting for a while, and you've learned how to decide whether to dig
or not based on the sound alone, then the Silver Umax is your best bet.
It's light weight and easy to use.

If you don't know much about discrimination and need to work with Target ID,
I would go with the White's Classic, as it has a display to help you fathom
the discrimination spectrum.

The whites is not the ID version. It is just the Classic 3.
