I was just reading through the lastest Lost Treasure Online Newsletter and the Pro tip was about the amount of pennies that are lost or thrown away each year in the US. Estimated to be around 2 million dollars worth.

I started thinking about how many pennies I pick up when I'm not metal detecting. I have my best luck at work. A small part of my job is when someone either quits or gets fired they usually leave a office full of files. Since I do most of the compliance work for my group they usually ask me to review the left behind files then decide what needs to be saved, trashed or shredded. I always find a pile of pennies and sometimes clad in the desks.

I place this in a plastic container then pour it into a Salvation Army donation pot at Christmas time. I do pull out and keep the wheaties...my little fee for collecting the coins. I've never added up the amount but I'm sure it is a decent donation.

One night walking out of work I started finding pennies leading to my parking garage. I though it was a joke and started looking around. Felt like bread crumbs leading to a trap. Found around twenty or so and two or three were wheaties.

So other then detecting where do you have your best luck finding coins? Maybe I can pick up a new trick or two.

To tell the truth I have had alot of luck finding great pennies and even better coins when I am at a casino. I know I go to them more than I should :violent1: but I since i collect pennies from the 70's and older I have fun doing it plus If i hit a good machine I may come out a few hundred richer:) thats how I actualy got my to buy my detecter. You would be surprized at the amount of pennies and coins droped on the floor or left in the change trays at ticket machines. When I go I always end up with pocket full of coins when I get home.

I did walk up to a slot machine at an Indian Reservation Casino in Arizona that had $67 left on the counter. I just cashed it out.

I have walked up to a machine in like 3 a.m. when there is hardly a sole in the place and tickes will be hanging out of machines. Usualy there are only for small change but once I found one that was 100.00 bucks. Got to be carfull of machines with money still on the machines specialy if the chair is turned around or something cuse it could mean the person will be back soon to the machine. I have seen it happen and the casinos security will check the cameras for the people and if the person that took that money is still in the casino they will get introuble and escourted out. Sometimes by the indian police.
