Would landslide areas in south america, be a good spot to look for gemstones ?

It seems that every year we hear about these huge landslides in South America, and i was wondering... Would these newly opened, fresh ground, landslide areas, be a good spot to look for emeralds, or other gemstones, gold, or artifacts ?. before they regrow over with vegetation.
Or would possibly looking for signs of ancient landslides, and then search the debris field at the bottom for items to be resurfacing be an option ?

It's just a thought
