History goes way back there to the 1500's. The Cherokee Indians inhabited those parts considering that part Holy. Native Americans along the Chattahoochee River north of Atlanta routinely panned for gold and found significant amounts of the material. Spanish miners joined them and formed minor settlements that operated almost continuously until the early 1700's. Gold is there, and some of the purest known to man, but most land is private property. Be careful ok? The penalties are strict if you get caught on the wrong side of the markers.

Good luck!!
