Don't know if anyone tried this, but a friend of mine has his coil bottom "protected" with clear self stick plastic. It comes in rolls, he simply unrolls a piece, sticky side up(obviously) and places the coil on top of the plastic. He then just trims the excess off with a razor blade. So far it has worked for him and is quite "cost effective" Note: he has not tried it in water.
