Check in the Owner's Guide. There is a salt beach search method described in the advanced techniques section that involves using the TR/DISC mode. It is recommended to search parallel to the water line.

You may have trouble with the water line searching due to the combination of saltwater and black sand. You may have to use very little sensitivity so the detector doesn't go crazy. Your worst trouble will be in crossing from wet to dry and back to wet. Stay in one or the other for best results on detector operation. Finds could be anywhere so just over lap at least by half. I know it's a pain, but it works.
