Do You Use A Coil Cover

Pros and cons on coil covers. I have never used them in over 20 years. Never had any issues with my machines or coils.

Why wouldn't you use a coil cover? Very cheap insurance for an expensive coil!!!

That was a brand new Garrett Ace 250 coil that I hit a rock with in tall grass back in 2007. Garrett replaced the coil, but it was a time consuming lesson learned. I have coils for my Minelab GPX machines that run $450.00 - $630.00 each, and a coil cover keeps them in pristine condition. The 10" Tesoro Eliptical shown in my other photo is three-years old, and that is the second coil cover. As you can see, the coil is in Perfect condition. Coil, or "scuff" covers are very cheap insurance and a great way to keep your equipment in the field for a long time. They also keep your resale value high.

It's a no brainer for me, I'd rather spend $12 on a coil cover than $120 on a new coil, Economics 101.

I got a coil cover with my 5x8 coil and it protects it from chips and scratches. All I have to do is remove it to clean it periodically as dirt and grime will collect under the cover.

your right on the mark coil covers work better than the some detector work finding any thing deep

Have never used a coil cover in 40+ years of detecting. Have never had to replace a coil.
To me the coil cover is a pain in the a ss. It can give you false signals when it gets dirty inside so you just have another chore to perform before detecting.
There is no real benefit unless you frequently resell your detectors. The scratches from carelessly hitting the ground doesn't hurt the detection capability, but the hard knocks from hitting rocks can hurt it with or without a cover so why bother. Frank...

Because that "cheap" Tesoro Lobo Super Traq finds really small pieces of gold that a Minelab GPX will walk over, weighs a LOT less, and has the ability to discriminate. Every serious gold prospector I know uses a PI for bigger, deeper gold, and a VLF for shallow, smaller gold. You don't use a "driver" to putt, and you don't use a "putter" to drive. Hope this helps you to understand.

I say no way to a coil cover.I prefer the natural,"feel"of md'ing commando style.Besides if I have to be careful with my new baby than I am focused.I live and hunt at 7000ft in the mts and EVERYTHING leaves a mark.Besides I keep breaking them dang covers so obviously I'm wasting my doe rae me.

of course others may disagree...but I say say swing fast and low.commando.Then repurpose your old coils by mounting them to the bumpers of your vehicle.scares the heck out of the,"black helicopter"crowd.

Thanks Frank I see pros and cons. However after all these years I am not going to start now.
