Places to MD around Petersburg,VA???

I'm looking for somewhere to metal detect around Petersburg, VA. I'm going to be here for a few months working at Fort Lee and I need somewhere to start. I know that getting permission from private land owners outside of city limits will probably be my best bet, but I was just wondering if anyone from that area had any leads on where to go. I'm from Louisiana and I'm hooked on MDing! Any help would be appreciated.

Petersburg area is a very very hard hit area but still lot of relics around! Good luck with it. I know lot of people who MD down there.

I can imagine with all of the civil war history that it's been searched pretty hard, but even if I have to drive a couple of hours to somewhere else in the state to MD would be worth it to me. I would make a weekend of it.
