My friend and I have recently bought some metal detectors and would love to start to hunting. I have been looking at some old towns in the area and notice that they belong on NASA property. To be more specific, close to the vehicle assembly building and runway. I would like to abide by the rules of metal detecting and get permission from NASA but how does one ask such a big company? Who would you ask? Is it even worth to try? Any help would be very helpful.

P.s. most of the towns are accessible by public roads and not private.

unfortunately Security & liability will be the 2 excuses used.

no matter what, If you actually have a Comeback, Like you'll purchase a $10,000,000.00 Policy
& they can do a thorough Backround check on you first, the answer will still be no :(

Of course there is always that tiny, tiny chance they may Smile, & say

"sure ! Go ahead ! but if you find gold we split it :tongue3: "

HaHa ! Good luck

I thought Nasa was a public agency, not a private agency? ???

And I'm trying to make sense of your last statement:

" .... P.s. most of the towns are accessible by public roads...."

You mean there's nothing wrong with the simple act of being there (standing, walking, driving by, etc...) on the grounds?

Which would most likely involve the NSA,DHS,FBI, crawling up your backside as far as they can go.So you got to ask yourself,is it worth it?

Yes I am sorry about that sentence. What I meant to say was abandoned towns. Towns specifically allenhurst and Wilson which no longer exist. Sorry about the confusion.

LOL "public" is another one of those words that has 2 Meanings.
Like the Phrase "set aside for the people to Enjoy" , "for Future generations"
or "belongs to the people" :tongue3:

there is an Abbreviation for these words & sentences : "b.s."
& I'm not talking boy scouts, or Bachelor of Science,
although they are also b.s.

Possible if you were employed by them in some capacity, and part of the ground maintaining crew, or knew someone that oversees that area that could approve you doing that with out drawing attention. I'm sure there's a way it can be done.

You will never get a piece of NASA! I was in FL when the nose of the Columbia wash up on a Merritt island beach. The lady that found it called NASA and reported it. When they came she requested one of the black tiles to keep for a memory. They said it was government property and they didn't want to have a memory of one of there failures. They comed the beach with detectors, but it was high tide. I went back at low tide and hit the edge of the water and came up with a bent , burned on one side piece of the Columbia. Hay I can 't have it authenticated, they would compenscate it. But I know I have the only piece! Frank...
