Hello and thanks in advance for reading and responding. My son has been asking for a metal detector for a few years. It is all he wants for his birthday this year. He is turning 11. We live in Florida, a half mile from the beach. I think he will use it the most there, but would love one he can use on land and in the shallows along the shore.

I would like something that will really work so he has success. I am looking for something that is easy to use and not too heavy.

Recap:
Water and land
Easy to use
Not too heavy
Good value for the money... As inexpensive as possible.

I have been reading reviews and researching, and as soon as I find something that sounds good, I find a review that is bad. I was looking at the cobra beach magnet and viper hybrid trident.

Thanks!

Ps... My user name is a typo.... Really should be just curious. :)

Hello and welcome.
You, as most, have varied needs buying for a kid.
Beaches are a different game than land. PI machines are great in salt water and gold fields but will only frustrate a kid in parks, home sites, etc.
VDI/TID machines discriminate well but are virtually useless on beaches unless you purchase a high end unit.
Call Bart @BigBoysHobbies. He will help you.
Peace
