Welp my friend you are not far from history and areas where you have a good chance.
First step... You must know your local library system like the back of your hand.
Second step... Once you know which library branch houses the best historical information you need to spend hours upon hours with a notepad and pen gathering your info.
Third step... Obtain permission/access to your locations that you feel are worth a try.

Just so you know... Some of the sweetest nicest people I have met ... are librarians... and they enjoy/like to help.
Once you have located the branch that's holds the history... Make some new friends and be very courteous and careful with any documents they have etc. Follow the rules.
Information is your key to unlock success.

Merry Christmas to you too, i lived near bush gardens, back in the 70s to late 80s
started Mding in fl, man the beaches just kept giving, use to snorkel and day sail
all down the west coast, is it ok to underwater detect off beach
