Anyone ever hear of purple painted rings around a tree mean no trespass?

Friend of mine was today was telling me purple rings painted rings around a tree signify "no trespass". Told me it's common in States like Texas were people own large tracts of land and would be to costly to post signs. Personally I have never heard of such a thing but makes sense. Comments welcome.

Yeah, No. What it is, is that buddy of mines property gets trespased on a lot because of game potchers. So he suggested a quick cheep way instead of buying signs spray paint purple rings on trees every 50' around boarder. I'm thinking ok I dont know, county will brobly come by and cut down those trees.

i saw those marks/rings a few yrs ago in east TX, i thought
something was wrong with the tree, friend told me prop markers
no tresspass

Purple paint is used in quite a few states to mark private property. Its everywhere here in Arkansas.
