Thinking about purchasing a Jewelers Magnification Glass. Any Suggestions?
I would like something to magnify my finds. Help identify and clean.
I really like the look of the older Brass ones.
However I would also like one with a light and maybe even different magnifications.
Any suggestion on types, brands, magnifications, and where to find one.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Feel free to post links, pics, of what you have, use, or would prefer.

Don't know about brass, but this dealer has some good ones, including several that include a built in light.

I use a nice little old magnifying glass with pivoted lens cover in the field (found in a box of junk I picked up from the curb)

Any 10x jewelers loop will do. I have a "Vantage Triplet 10X". Had it for many years and used it to grade diamonds.

Thanks for sharing what you use, and the suggestions.
It appears that 10x seems to be what I need.
I really like the pedestal type so I can be hands free.
That would help with cleaning coins/relics and also digging sticker thorns out of my fingers.

Whatver you do...Don't buy one of those real high magnification ones. They are worthless! Don't ask how I know!!

Hobby Lobby has a nice one. Not sure of brand. Tabletop model that is lighted. Bout $120. Up to 60x.
I will relocate info.
I normally use a handheld loup. Even when crhing. Simple and under $15.

check out Ebay They have different ones and at a decent price I bought my 10Xfor under $3 and that included the shipping

I have a bunch of them laying around. I have the old Sherlock Homes style with a 4" lens and handle, One that sits over a coin about 2" with a led light and my old favorite, a lens from an old night vision device. That one is a bit overpowered, probably about 20 power. They are all over and they are cheap now. The best use a glass lens. Frank

I just purchased two "Illuminated Loupe" 40X for around $ 4.00 dollars/each on Ebay (free shipping). I keep one in my detector vest for field magnification and one at home. The LED light is very useful for worn detailed finds. I also have a 4" magnifying lens used for inspecting finds at home.

One can never have enough loops it seems for different things. I got a 10x-4" with the handle, 5x-2" in a flip/slid in case, jeweller's triple loop with a 3x-4x-5x loops all in a metal housing made by RuPer, had all of the glasses now for 25+yrs and are still going strong. If your going to buy go with glass as plastic will get scratches on the lens over time from dirt and dust. I'm still looking for a good table top version for taking out splinters from the finger as one needs more digits and hands to do minor extractions sometimes.

I only buy 30x.
And have made my own from old shot microscopes for years.

Must have owned close to 50 types of magnification devices by now.

Like Frank and ARRC I have the eye piece from a microscope it's 30X. I also have the hand held Sherlock type, and a smaller version on a stand that has clips for holding what your looking at, last two probably are 10 X.

I may get one that connects to a computer screen and can enlarge 60X.

And expensive too!!!!! A lot of the stuff they have is made by the same companies that make Harbor Freights stuff just different colored plastics. Check out their mini table saw, now check out the Harbor Freight one. Same saw Just a huge mark up!

If you're really pinching pennies HF has the folding magnifiers, magnifier + alligator clips on a stand, and my favorite the visors. Got the one that has several lenses you can use one or combine 2 even has a 2 LED light. Hands free with different powers.

I have the Belomo 10x, really like it. This company produces military optics, and is in partnership with Zeiss from what i recall. Has a larger lens than the Bausch & Lomb triplets, and is a good bit cheaper- Belomo is better quality in my opinion too. I got mine on ebay, with nice lanyard and free shipping for about 30 dollars.
