As you may have read in a few of my other posts I have found an old site of somekind, I recently found the well, the whole area is kind of in a swale of sorts so pinpointing a sunken spot is hard. My plan is to take a pick ax and do a big X and then box it (trenches) and everytime I hit something solid investigate further. Is this the best(quickest) method or has anyone done something else that worked well?

Hi, before doing to a lot of manual labor, get yourself about 5' of 7/16" steel rod and weld or bolt a tubular steel T-handle to it. Then you can go poking around for foundation stones or dumps.

Sounds like a cool spot to explore and figure out.

Good luck!................HH
