"Hunting" Camping trip suggestions.

Good Morning All,

I live in North Georgia and my wife is motivated to go on a metal detecting/camping adventure. Any suggestions for a MDing friendly area with a cool/historic town nearby (my wife is an author/artist) with a nearby KOA/camp ground?
