Before Padre Island was a national seashore, we used to cruise up and down the island. 118-130 miles. Especially after a big storm or a hurricane, gold and silver coins would be lying on the beach High winds and waves would change the dunes and uncover coins and old jewelry too. Now gold jewelry from today is usually fairly shallow, but the people that look for that can advise you a great deal more...

Depends on a lot of factors. Where you are at, how deep and dense the sand is, and if gold is there to begin with. I have found rings and chains on top and buried.
