I think we are all pullin for ya smokey.... my uncle did the same thing years ago. He sent it somewhere and they cut a slice off it and polished it. It was beautiful, it was real, and it was valuable. The scientists kept the small slice for there database and sent him the big piece with a polished window in it. He found it in his yard in Connecticut.

I tried a diamond saw to take a small slice off the end. Only was trying to take off less than 1 inch. The rock threw sparks. I then took it to a Graves Mark IV faceting machine and ground a flat spot on it. The interior is black with spiny metal white sparkles in it. The rind, i.e. crust isn't great, like you'd see in a typical burn, but...specific gravity is correct. Streak is marginal and it is slightly magnetic. Minor nickel is present.

My wife showed up at home the other day with a used Facetron machine in tow as our newest object of adoration. She's the rockhound, and we are both hoping for your success!

Not a meteorite. A mixture of albite, quartz and iron rich clinoclore. ( I can't spell it right.)

You still got a door stop rock. I got one too. I better go do the magnet test on that sucker. Would have been epic to have a whale fossil and a meteorite too !!!
Darn it !!

This year rocked. I'll try to do an end of the year post. Gold coin, gold rings and earrings, almost 200 silver halves coin roll hunting, 1797 cent, Two Confederate plates, two Union, a wonderful spur, dozens of CW bullets, buttons, some ration cans, knapsack hooks, a few Amerindian artifacts, ink bottle, and several pounds of change from the local beach. Can't complain except the ground is starting to freeze some.

My daughter wants me to sledge it to see if there are crystals on the inside.
