Drive Time To Hunting Time Balance?

Let's say you are a working person, have one day off, researched a possible old public place to hunt. It happens to require two hours drive time to get there and two back. Without any proof of success being it's an open public park, where do you draw the line when drive time cuts 4 hours into your one day off?

I personally would only consider the hunt you are describing if I was already heading in that direction for some other necessary reason, $40 in gas plus half a day of driving would outweigh the possibility of goodies. I might do it if I researched some truly amazing lost historical site. I also am lucky enough to stay busy unearthing good targets within a 10 min drive of my house (or work).

4 hours of treacherous heavy traffic, or 4 hours of open road, would be my deciding factor. Open road, go for it!

I'd do it without question. My locations are very limited though, people aren't largely accepting of the sport here. I have two regular spots, one is a 5 minute drive, one is an hour and 45 minutes away! I do both with vigor, and usually find nothing!

Should research confirm a good enough reason to make it a marathon.....maybe.
My cruising range is about 50 miles.
Lots of history still not unearthed closer to home still.
To meet up for a hunt or a visit, a long run might appeal more .
My luck I would realise I'd forgotten something important , two hours out.

I hunt places withing a 50 mile radius of my house. I do have some sites I want to hit that are further away and plan on using some of them as a mid-way point to hunt with fellow MDers.
