Found a potentially awesome place. How do I access it?

While looking at 1700's maps I noticed a huge main road that appeared on nearly all the maps until the mid 1800's. You can see it on satellites still going through the woods. The problem is parking and access. I am almost sure that the road itself is public, but to enter it from the street you have to go through a narrow path (the abandoned road), right next to a house, almost in their driveway. There is also a house next to the abandoned road within .2 miles from the entrance. Near the other end of the road their also looks to be a dug-in police firing range you have to go through to enter the other way (which is clearly illegal). There is one possible way involving walking .1 miles through the woods from the current road I will park at to the abandoned road. Those woods are beyond dense and bushy. If I want to walk .2 miles from the road in another place I can go through beautiful old woods with stone walls everywhere. There was a huge farm field along the trail on the first Google Earth satellite of the place, which is now woods.

There is a separate driveway going to that house .2 miles down the trail.

Ask permission from the homeowner to pass through - they will probably let you if you explain you are metal detecting, and not tending to a marijuana crop.

Also looks as if it was abandoned in the 1820's. That section is 1 mile long.

Yep go up to the house and ask! You may find out some good info that way, like where the reefer is being raised, or where they are cooking meth. Both good places to avoid. OR they may know something of the history of the road and can lead you to a hot spot.

Ask for permission. Have you thought about going to the city, town or county to look at their maps? An hour or so there will probably answer all your questions and a few you haven't thought of too.

I am about to check the property maps, to see the bounds of that house.

Bring some long handled pruning shears and hack your way in. Then post all the Colonial coins and relics you find. :icon_thumright:
