A sure sign that its at least fall. The first Canadian Geese you spot.

The one on the far left hissed at me a couple of times.

These bad natured buggers have been all over our lakes and fields for a couple of weeks now. The lake smells so bad of goose poop that you don't want to get near it, let alone in it.

OMG! Bite your tounge!

No snow - no snow!
....at lest not yet!

It is getting chilly here, i picked up 2 hoodies today. I plan on baking stuff in the oven till i have to fire up the wood stove.
There's just a few leaves turning color here and there.

My fall & early winter warning is when i see and hear the large flocks of Canadian geese in "V" formation, flying high in the sky heading south.

This is good detecting weather...i wish i could get out and enjoy it.

Scary turned real. Yesterday i told the knee to hush up, i was going detecting while i still could!
While out there what flies over...
Yep! A large flock of Canadian geese...heading south.
The rush is now on to get as much detecting done before i have to get reacquainted with the snow shovel.

...good thing you didn't bite your tongue....those bandaids taste nasty! Lol!

I have been here in the Phoenix area for the past 10 years.Cold is not in our vocabulary. Day temps are still over 100º and overnight temps are around 80º-84º .I'm waiting for it to cool down a bit to get out detecting again.

I think PA is farther South than NY. I've gone from a T shirt to a sweat shirt. At noon the sweatshirt comes off..

Down in the upper 30's here over night in the river valley but 70's in the day. Couple of dustings of snow up above treeline so far but no big deal.
You consider 2 feet a dusting? ╦╦Ç

They had snow on Mt. Washington in NH, the other day. But thats a whole other world up there.

I am hoping Irma stays out in the Atlantic & doesn't make land fall.
A cat. 4 or 5 hurricane is no joke.

looks like at the very Least the East coast will get some wind and wave action as it turns out to sea.

Worst case Scenario it hits Florida & rides up the Coast.

they seem pretty Confident Texas will be spared this one.

they are expecting central PA to get rain from it :(
Had enough from harvy

I hear you Jeff,, I too live in Pennsylvania now. My morning temps are the same as yours. I'm just hoping my neighbor was kidding when he said he had to drill water wells in temperatures of 24 below.
I'll start looking at Florida for a getaway,, if it gets that cold.

I hope Irma just stays away from land. I have family & friends in Fla.

I saw a gaggle of geese on the sports field this morning, they had spent the night. They took off and headed south.

They didn't leave any golden eggs...just little piles of goose poop.

It was so cold here this morning I woke up at 0300 and piled on the blankets. Just couldn't get over the shivers, but I've not been super healthy lately either. I'm not worried about that. My major concern is that I have no immediate options to heating my house for the Winter. Chimney cracked year before last, went through kerosene the time after, and then installed propane heat, and that was knocking the crap out of my bank account last year, really a lot worse than I had expected.

So, that has me wondering this year. I'm presently covering this enigma on my Homesteading thread. Gotta keep Mom warm, she's 92.

Install Triple Wall Flue up the cracked chimney, put in a good wood stove, seal the fireplace behind the stove (of course with the flue/stove pipe going through material used to seal the fireplace with), get you a couple or more of big loads of wood and heat away.

Well, if the darker version of the Yellow Jackets are any indication, then at least Tennessee is in for a deep snow. Some built a nest in some leaves of the male Mulberry tree that sits next to my' house and the leaves rest against the brick. The nest is nearly 5 feet off the ground instead of in the ground.
