Historical maps from 1865 - 1890, use Google maps satellite to view if there is a structure still there, if the structure (home) is, I only use for reference to another location of another cellar hole. Most of the time I can park, walk out into the field, pasture, bush and be on the site without too much problems. The ones that do have me (which is rare) where I go out and there isn't a site, those have me scratching the noddle till I resolve the missed site. Maybe this winter I'll subscribe to a pay for use of an imaging radar mapping system. Seems what is sometimes free in the US is still a pay to use site up in Canada.

I use it a lot, and sometimes explore the world for hours. I have posted many wrecks that were found in shallow water around the keys and bahamas.

I have many more like this and I often head out in the boat to locate and snorkel/dive these wrecks. I have found some awsome shallow water wrecks with google earth.
In the bottom pic I actually found 5 wrecks there very close together, one was an old steam powered paddle wheeler.

On the rare occasion, LIDAR. Also do a lot of trekking and hiking. If I see old stonewalls or something else of interest, I'll research it.
