I live about 20 miles from the site.. went there yesterday.. FBI is all over it.. when asked, they just say they are doing an investigation... Having lived in this area all my life.. I have heard the tale of this gold many times..Locales have searched the Dents run area for years...BUTT.. hey.. maybe the treasure seekers have really found something... I think they would have frowned upon me getting out of my truck with a shovel..

Why ? Why would they shoot down (or even notice) a drone flying over them ? This just seems to imply that this is, of necessity, something super top secret (as opposed to having a more plausible explanation). And if it's true that they're "monitoring the skies for drones to shoot down" (because most certainly they're digging 50 pounds of gold up), then why oh why do they let cars drive within a stones throw of it and let them take pix ? I'm sorry, but this is not adding up.

And I want to challenge the notion of this being the "FBI there to dig up gold" . If you read the story closely, it appears that this assertion is merely nearby townsfolk MUSING SUCH A THING. Ok, how does that "make it so" ?

This could merely be the ripple effect of the 2 TH'rs having raised cain with the media all these years. And when the media goes out to get public comment, ... and phrases is "have you heard of such & such", and "therefore what do you think of such & such". Well GO FIGURE: You're going to get people musing all sorts of things (such is the fun of good old camp-fire lore stories after all).

FBI is there because the treasure hunters had to get the feds involved as the pa DCNR had shut them down and throw them off the game lands.. and yes u can drive by.. this is in a small rural area.. what u see is the bottom of the hill.. they have utv's which they are going up the mountain.. I could not see where they were digging.. butt...its not a fake story...

Every one of the legends has "truth" in it. Names, dates, conjectures, events, etc... Thus let's say that "99% is true". But if the 1% that's not true is: "There's no treasure there", then what difference does the 99% that's true make ?

So too is it with all the lores and lost mine stories of the treasure mag's of the 1970s. They'd be riddled with "true " stuff (names, dates, events, etc...) . And around that, was concocted treasure stories. As you can see, it won't matter HOW much "separating fact from fiction" a person does, if there's no treasure there in the first place.

I wouldn't think they would need the trailer, tent and utv's to dig up a simple grave or fire place that may contain gold. Shovels, yes. Obviously, they are set up to be there for more than a few hours. The FBI investigates violations of Federal Law, felony violations. They are probably gathering evidence of some type of illegal activity on the property. I seriously doubt they are looking for gold.

If the scene of "men stacking boxes onto a pallet" means "treasure", then they ought to come to my area. There must be treasures all around me. I see men stacking boxes onto pallets all the time in warehouses, ag. industry, the back loading dock of Kmart and Walmart, etc.....

This becomes the scenario where EVERYTHING SOMEONE CLAIMS TO HAVE seen in the area , no matter how benign and no matter how much more plausible explanations exist, will .... of necessity ... point to "treasure".

Last Stand At Bitter Creek – One of the incidents involved a small detachment of Union solders that left Wheeling, West Virginia, in June 1863. escorting a shipment of gold bullion that allegedly went missing in the rugged and remote North-central region of Pennsylvania.
[h=2]SECRET CARGO OF GOLD[/h]Legend has it that Abraham Lincoln ordered the gold shipment to help pay Union soldiers. The cargo consisted of 26 gold bars, weighing 50 pounds each – worth between $1.5- and $2 million – and stored beneath the false bottom of the wagon, which was covered in hay to disguise it.
Depending on what account you read, this shipment was headed for either the state capital in Harrisburg, or to Washington DC. In order to avoid Confederate patrols, the unit was ordered to travel as far north as possible before turning south.
The detachment was under the command of a young lieutenant, and led by a civilian guide. But only the lieutenant knew of the gold.

Before the detachment reached St. Mary’s, in Elk County, he suffered a seizure and revealed the purpose of the mission, as well as the contents of the wagon. After spending the night, the detachment left St. Mary’s, and headed for Driftwood. It was the last time the lieutenant or the eight soldiers were ever seen alive.
[h=2]GUIDE REVEALS STORY OF ATTACK[/h]According to one account, the civilian guide showed up at Lock Haven, 40 miles southeast of Driftwood, contending the unit was attacked and wiped out, and the cargo taken.
He didn’t identify the attackers.
The US Army, however, questioned the veracity of the story and hired,and hired the Pinkertons to investigate. Undercover detectives had no success in locating the missing cargo. Army officials hustled the guide out of the area and sent him to a western outpost, where he died.

50# gold bars to pay Union soldiers? How would that work? Each soldier would take out his Bowie knife and carve a small hunk off the bar? Isn't that what the US Mint is for - to turn gold bars into specie?

This version appears to owe a great deal to a rather obscure work by Francis X. Scully. He wrote the book and arranged for it to be printed - but he never picked up this work. For years the printer sold off copies, trying to get paid for his work.

One more thing, how does the newscast know that anyone is digging? You think the FBI told them they were digging? I think folks are doing "math" on this one. I see no shovels, no dirty hands, gloves, shoes or pants. Unless someone has seen a shovel or equipment capable of digging, I'd rule out digging. In the video, I see a clip board with papers, yep, that's a sure sign of an investigation. I can't make out what the tripod thing is though....thoughts?
