I usually let these guys slide(click pic to enlarge) if not near a house but these were at some rentals I have the mountain at the front door. . There are three of them in the picture and one is a female. You could smell her. The females breed and lay down a scent and you will end up with many if not careful . I have seen them in large balls trying to mate.
Saw a snake skin in the garage and figured it was just a black snake but will check again tomorrow. I sprayed the area with Clorox to remove the musk odor from the female hopefully that ends it from pulling more in.
These three got a light tap on the head to dispatch in about 30 seconds or less. They have heads as fragile as egg shells.
Be safe out and about in your hunts!

They smell something like cucumbers?

Its a strong musky scent never associated it with Cucumbers. Have smelled the scent in the woods setting up ladder stands and then found the snakes. Found and posted on here long ago a stone bridge I crossed that was covered with copperheads.
I just read another post on here where they are covered up with them.

I was in a quarry years ago and smelled cucumbers. I was told it was copperheads. My cat sometimes smells musky.:laughing7:

Did ya skin'em? Traditional bowhunters or bowyers use those skins for backing on the bow. Real pretty.

I used to tan them with borax but kinda beat these guys up pretty bad with what I had. I have some timber rattler skins on the wall now. Man cave.

I won't kill them in area I am just passing through. I am not that afraid of them. But near a house and 3 of them say goodbye. Heads are like egg shells much more exiting to use a stick then waste 3 .410 shells. I like that rig though I used to have several of the old High Standards that broke open that way.

Buddy of mine had a place in WV and they were always sneaking into his garage. He always drove in head first to make sure he had a good visual of the floor.

I've never had a copperhead be aggressive...Knock On Wood!

I Have had Cottonmouths come at me on land and while in the boat a few times.

I like that gun you have for snakes... Very Nice.

Seen many a copperhead in the Smokies.. most of the times on popular trodden trails enjoying the sunlight and seemingly oblivious to crowds of terrified but curious tourists ..never in suburbia though (thankfully).

I ran over a two-headed black (grass?) snake in my driveway when i lived in Harrison TN near the GA line. It must have been young as it was only 6 or 7 inches long and the back 2 inches were smooshed. It had slithered off into the grass by the time i got my camera out.
