It raises a good question. Would you involve the FBI before you even confirmed that a cache existed?

Whole lot to think about here. I say NO, but then I also have to consider "What may come?"

We gotta protect our selves AND family in considerations of "What may come?"

Of course they will be selling snowballs in hades when I dig a valuable cache...I have probably zero chance of doing that this late in the game.

Though if I dug a Cache & Someone was trying to Scam me out of it,
I May choose the FBI Over the Police to Explain, I know its there,
& They won't let me near it, Figuring If I'm locked out, so will the entity trying to keep me from it be locked out :skullflag:

So you are convinced you have found a valuble cache.

Would you involve the FBI?

Simple Yes or No please.

I'll go first

NO

:laughing7:

Sorry, not so simple.

So you are convinced you have found a valuble cache.

Well, what would it take for you to become convinced it was valuable? Seems to me you either have found a valuable one or you haven't.

Next step: Does it appear that the cache was stolen or simply lost, and how long ago?

Stolen; Yes, I would turn it in.

Lost long ago, with no reasonable way to trace ownership? Nope

There are stories around here (like everywhere I'd guess) of bank robbers in the 30s burying their loot. I've not been able to corroborate that, despite having looked. If I found that, even based on those stories, probably not. 90 years is too long ago.

I have to admit that I've seen and heard reliable stories of law enforcement simply "absorbing", for lack of a cruder word, the proceeds of such a find. That is troubling in the extreme.

Dealing with the FBI on any matter, criminal matters or location of buried treasures on federal lands, I would hire the best lawyer that I can afford and let them handle the FBI.

I vote no but like I said what if it was money from a bank robbery or jewelry reported stolen it depends on alot of things you could get jammed up quick depending on what the cache was trust me I dont want to give anything up I find but also dont wannt to be locked up for a crime they need to pin on someone

"I dont want to give anything up I find but also dont wannt to be locked up for a crime they need to pin on someone"

It is easy to get "roasted" in an investigation by being that simple, honest citizen. No matter what anyone tells you, detectives automatically have you on the high priority list, by simply being the proper citizen and reporting such finds.

You will have zero, dirty laundry left unexposed. In this world? DTA is the best policy. DON'T TRUST ANYBODY

A big NO is my answer
