I have very little experience with detectors; my friend has less.

A few years ago he buried a few one ounce Kruggerands in a glass jar, maybe about 12 inches below the ground. He forgot the precise location.

He has an opportunity to buy a used Whites Eagle II for $200. Would that go as deep as the Garrett AT PRO which he would have to buy brand new?

Other suggestions without having to pay $1,000 or more, or it that necessary?

Does the glass jar have a metal top? if so Id say that Eagle II would do the trick...

Yes, metal top facing downward and coins individually wrapped in clear, soft coin holders. But does the metal cap make things easier or harder?
