Funny no good photos of sword. Looks like a German cavalry sword to me. I gotta call BS on this story.

Not only that... i think that this would be the first sword I ever saw that had a name spelled out ON the scabbard... anyone who was a "pirate"... especially a known pirate who was on the "most wanted" list to carry around so anyone who saw it could identify him.

I also smell something... and it ain't rust.

Lafitte, still confusing those that chase him, 200 years later. I highly doubt that British 1796 saber has any link to him at all. I'm not even sure it is a 1796, as they do not give me, or any of us, a close enough look at it. It could be German, even early 20th century. I have heard he was fond of the rapier, so I'm not sure why he would have carried around a heavy cavalry saber, it must have been quite the burden, especially with his name on it for all to see. Just another story to muddy the water, and I expect a new one next year, as they pop up every year or so.

The more I look at it, given the short amount of time given in the video, it does look German to me, the hilt is slightly canted downwards, which gives the knuckle bow a different angle as well. I don't think that is a 1796, it looks more like Prussian/German second half of 19th to WW1. A lot of these, along with 96's from England, were sold to the South at the outbreak of the war. I would be willing to bet this one was on board one of those shipments.

The main rumor claimed that Lafitte rescued Napoleon from exile... and both of them remained for the rest of their days in Louisiana... and have very little word on NC.

This was BB's story.

No evidence supports this NC thing...even in "stories / "legends"... and it has been the Louisiana story that has and was the most told.

Seems to me like the whole story is an attempt to sell copies of their book. May not be, but sure seems like it.
