OK, Recently the question was asked about CPH=coins recovered per hour. Today, my question is "On average how much APH or area per hour are you able to cover while detecting"? Also I would like to know "How you cover that area, in patterns, sections, blocks, etc, or just helter skelter?

I'd imagine most will say "it depends".....that's what I'm sayin' :) I've spent an hour on a 10-15 square foot area digging clad after clad coin. I've covered 1/4 acre in an hour if things were few & far between.

If I'm on a smaller site where an old school stood, I'll cover it pretty well, if I'm in a large field where a home once stood, but I'm not sure exactly where, I'll wander-around looking for either building residue (nails, lead, electrical, etc) or an area that produces a find or two, then concentrate more on that area.

But, being a rookie, I'm givin' rookie advice.....that's just how I do it.

Not very much. Detecting is a hobby for me so how much area I cover is irrelevant. If it were a business or my livelyhood, perhaps I would look for ways to cover more area faster. It also seems the faster one moves the more one misses in good finds. There is no way for me to answer your question since as Smitty pointed out it depends on how many targets you are digging. If I dig a lot of targets, then I am moving at a snails pace.

I'm with IndianaSmith on this one. It totally depends on the area. If it's hot or I've already found a silver coin or two in there, it can be a 15x20 foot area an hour. If I'm just scanning around to get a feel for a new place, I would be going over an area that size in a minute or two. When I am in a place that I feel is hot, I will definately do a grid pattern in sections.

APH may also be a functionality of the machine's ability, the operators level of endurance and the quality of the cough syrup in the hip flask.

Add to that; knee and hip replacement, digging equipment and research.
