Hello I am new to this Club, I hope you guys accept me!
8 years experience, I have owned 6 detectors. Currently I use my new DFX.
Yes I have it tweaked just right!
I want to share with everyone a techniqe I just stumbled on!

IN ALL METAL PINPOINT MODE I SCAN FOR A COIN SIZE TARGET AT 6 INCHES OR DEEPER!
Then I sweep my DFX and I get no signal or Response, mabey a clic or nail reading?
HERE IS THE KICKER! I DIG ANYWAY AND I FOUND 1866 SHEILD NICKEL, 1866 2 CENT,
AND 1866 INDIAN HEAD IN MY FRONT YARD. I also found 12 square head nails using this method.
of course Im also living in an 1880s house. I havent fine tuned this techniqe yet. But my point is if I hadnt
tryed pinpointing a coin size target and then digging when my DFX didnt register ANYTHING, I wouldnt have
3 of my nicest coins. PS the coins were 6 -7 inches any responses!
Scott.

I don't know everything there is to know about metal detecting and I don't know anything about a DFX. But I do know that if I get a signal while in discriminate and I switch to pinpoint and I don't find the cause for the original signal then I'm going to switch to all metals and just guess the center of the signal and dig. After all, if you got a signal in the first place then there must be something in the ground and you can't allow your machine to rule your common sense and logic. Target>Signal>DIG!

Perhaps, equipment sophistication can be a bad thing. You have to go back to the basics.

ONE THING THAT GETS ME IS I HAD SWEPT THE SPOT WHERE THE INDIAN HEAD WAS PROBABLY TEN TIMES
MY DETECTOR NEVER SAID ANYTHING!

THEN THINKING ABOUT METAL DETECTING ONE NIGHT I THOUGHT I WILL DIG ONE OF THOSE DISCRIMINATED TARGETS
AND SEE WHAT IT IS! (IN PINPOINT MODE)
HELLO 1866 INDIAN HEAD PENNY!!
IT KIND OF UPSETS ME THAT MY DFX DIDNT EVEN JUST COME RIGHT OUT AND SAY LOOK HERE!

WHEN I GO TO ALL METAL MODE THERE IS SO MUCH METAL BURIED ITS NOT FUNNY

Exactly why I don't use all-metal mode. I see others say they hunt in all-metal mode but not all areas allow you to do this. I'm not sure if southwest Kansas just has a lot of iron in the soil, but every where I go all-metal just is not an option.

HEY EVERY BODY
GUESS WHAT, THIS METHOD I POSTED, THAT I THOUGHT I CAME UP WITH, TURNS OUT TO BE AN OPTION
BUILT IN TO MY DFX CALLED (MIXED MODE).
DIDNT REALIZE IT TILL I JOINED THIS CLUB!
THE ONLY BAD THING IS THE GROUND IS CURRENTLY FROZEN.
I GUESS I WILL TURN THAT OPTION BACK ON NOW THAT I UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS FOR
