Many hundreds a times and with righteous success too. Go down 1' and hold for 10 seconds to bring up a sample.Shovel it aside north,go down another 1' and put it, south,1' more and east,1' more and west.You now have the knowledge of all paylayers,false bedrock,and concentrations of flood gold. You save your back,thousands a hours behind a pick and shovel and are a much wealthier miner.One in the many tools in a gold miners arsenal.Tons a au 2 u 2-John ;D

I just modified my Ice fishing auger and put some small spikes on the end and it will now dig a hole in very hard gravel. I am going out next weekend and I will let you know how it worked.
