I just checked the gpaa website they have 6 chapters in penn. i'm sure they'd be glad to help you with questions each one has a email address you can email them at. of coures it might come with wanting you to join their club.

Well I did some sampling in NE PA in the Endless mountains, while there is no 'native' gold there is glacial gold - some of the GPAA members reported finding gold nuggets the size of dimes in the Susquehanna river. I contacted the PA state geologist some years ago and he suggested that streams that flow north stand a better chance of having glacial gold, not sure exactly why, and if you can find a map of the glacial terminal moraine deposits, they are a good place to look.
