Just a quick question... When mining in a river, should I dig deeper in the river to get gold or should I stay on top of the surface and move around more?

Deeper, always deeper. To bedrock, if possible. Water, when enough to move the gravels, "stratifies" the mess by weight. Gold on the bottom, in most cases. Stick around this Tnet and you will learn much from the guys and gals. TTC

get Chuck Lassiters book www.midwestprospector.com prospecting in the midwest! but as been said, dig deeper and look for any exposed bedrock!
