MHO, just tell them in short, suction dredging is good for the environment it removes toxin from our waterways (the peoples water) why else would the The Sierra Fund want tax payer monies to operate a suction dredge when the suction dredge miner has done it for free the last five decades

Yet, who's participation is not invited to participate on the steering committee, and what do small scale artisan miners have to do with certifying industrial sized mine sites? Another "green" wolf in sheep's clothing, who's "do the right thing" disguise will eventually morph into a ready to go catch all policy for the government to adopt and implement (once they add a money leeching component to it).
Funny that there is only one actual mining company on the Steering Committee- Anglo American, one of the largest mining companies in the world. What do they know or care of small-scale mining? They don't, they are involved to come up with better ways to manage the competition. We tried the same type of deal here in CA by requiring State licensing for different trade workers. It backfired on us, but that's another story. On the surface these programs seem wonderful, how can you not get behind them. Then you start digging and like an outhouse, the stink just doesn't go away!

The Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA), a group that includes
stakeholders from the mining industry, organized labor, nongovernmental organizations,
impacted communities, and businesses, is working to establish a multi-stakeholder and
independently verifiable responsible mining assurance system that improves social and
environmental performance.

The goal is to launch a certification program in late 2015 that provides independent,
third-party verification of compliance with a set of measures for social and environmental
performance at industrial-scale mine sites.

This is nothing more than new-age, eco-preservationist, socialist double-speak.

How do y'all think Tony Beet's "social performance" would rate on their
scale?

If someone can explain that part to me, in ENGLISH, then perhaps I'll

I posted only cuz TSF is askin thier Zombies to write in comments, like the landgrab with the Logging industry, now the left is logging under thier terms after take over
backdoor tactics, abolish the mining law, add new regs to the clean water act, all to get thier way and mine later, and we all will be standing around askin how did that happen

Those back-door tactics are becoming more and more "the thing to do" as it cuts the public out of the loop and lets those in power do as they want with no input from the people that will be affected by the rules and regulations. Another thing that they like to do is to publish notice of a public input meeting in some obscure magazine or publication that no one reads very much....again no input from those that would be affected. The DSL meeting in Grants Pass, Oregon is a perfect example as it happens this evening....just found out about it this morning. Short notice? You betcha.......
