Hi , can any1 help me with any info on these photos I took the other day , if it's a good sign or a bad sign ? Am amazed with prospecting and have only started looking into it recently , am in scotland in argyll , we only have 1 gold claim as far as I know about , tyndrum , I don't even own a panning set yet , never even checked out the rivers or streams , but it's soon going to happen , only when I think I know enough , with all the info and help frm experienced prospectors like you guys , thanks any feedback appreciated , it's only quarts rock no biggie at my stage I don't think ,,,,

Hrm.. Offhand I'd say you need a metal detector, a rock hammer, a rock crusher and some water and a gold pan

The iron staining on the quartz is a positive sign, means that there is mineralization. Do you know what type of rock the quartz is cutting through?

Cheers for the info guys , defiantly need to pick up the tools , shouldn't take me to long to do that , no I have no idea what type of rock it could be , how would I go about finding out ? I can get a piece of the rock tomorrow , but I don't know any1 in my area that I could take it to , it's really dark rock with white quarts veins running all over the place

If you get a good high quality picture or two there is a thread some of the rockhounds participate in identifying rock types. Good luck, and keep us posted!

Great guys , I will take a few high quality photos tomorrow , am pretty sure they're no prospectors in the area , or I would have asked about the type of rock , but I was just having a wee look at eBay and all the tools I need seem to be reasonably priced , so I will take good pictures of the quarts and the dark rock and I will try getting some of the quarts and the dark rock home for better pictures , will keep ya posted ,,,

Quick search for gold bearing areas in Scotland are as follows; Leadhills, Tyndrum, the Ochil Hlls, and Strath of Kildonnan.
You mentioned Tyndrum, how close to and how similar are the geological features to your area? There are some beautiful pictures of gold found in Scotland. I would love to visit Scotland, do some prospecting and family research. Good luck and hope you strike it rich, don forget to stake your claim!

Lol am really new to this I will have to do a lot of searching to find this out , am a delivery driver and end up in places no one in the hills and so awkward places to get to Iol don't think any riches will come to me that easy lol I just see the white quarts all over this one area and it spreads all over , so I parked my van up and went a walk , big thick veins in bolders running all over in straight lines and zig zags , loads of different types of rocks all about the place , so I came home and looked up white rocks and now here I am , don't no why but am so interested in everything I see in this place

There are no "claims" in Scotland nor are there any public lands open to prospectors. There is gold however.

Before panning anywhere you need to make sure you have the permission of the landowner (preferably in writing), but be careful, it is the owner of the riverbank whose permission you need, not the owner of the surrounding arable or pasture land. The mineral rights to the area may even belong to someone completely different to the landowner, so you really do need to take care.

It's all about who you know and who you can get permission from.

I know of one mining club there but I'm not sure I can post the link here?

Oh tyndrum is only a 45 min drive away from me , could go anytime , it's a well known gold mine , av even went camping at tyndrum with friends , and knew ppl came from all over the world to pan there , but me and my pals had no interest in it, we just went there for a good laugh camping.

Shouldn't be a problem if I need it ! I get on very well with all the lairds game keepers farmers , and very well with the forestry ? To some ppl waiting for there delivery , am there only company when I get there , hard to get away at times lol , is the club in argyll ? Would really like to get involved , feels like a change in life , and want to know more , lol

The "host" (black/blue) rock looks like "Basalt" which is an extrusive igneous rock formation. It is a little difficult to tell by the photos.
It could contain gold; you'll have to test and see. What you will most likely find is a host for some cool minerals and gems though.

If it is indeed Basalt, it could contain:

Plagioclase Feldspars
Olivine
Sodalite
Phlogopite Mica
Apatite

Hope these photos are better quality , am so new to this and it's all just a bit of research when am at work , only trying to understand about quartz veins and minerals at the moment b4 I start sampling , the whole place is dominated by limestone , and other types of rock to , I have just read about faults , and I notice a lot of them to ,

I have found out that this area is mostly on the dalriadan quartzite belt with epidiorite and hornblende schists with bands of limestone and black slate , it's also on a fault that runs north east and South west , hope this is useful folks

Smash it into powder and pan it out. If it is really heavy with gold PM me as my ancestors came from Scotland and you are probably my long lost cousin that I need to visit.
