Jewelry gold is alloyed with quite a bit of silver . This is to harden it . It is usually from 12 to 18 carat. 12/ 24 to 18/24.au. Native placer gold is a lot closer to being pure. 85% to 92% in many cases. Adding scrap jewelry filings to a package of dirt I would consider very fraudulent !

Rod,

Most of the gold dore bars I have seen run about 65% pure. There are some places (Feather River, CA) where I have seen purity run as high as about 98%. Natural gold that I have seen runs the gamut from low teens% up to almost pure right out of the ground.

No disrespect but I am Curious as to why you have rings and old jewelry to file down and add to your cons when you are mining so much gold. Did I miss something?

620,000 people (Americans) died in the Civil War. Roughly 2% of the population. No matter which version of history you have been taught, the bottom line is these solider's were your average man. On either side of the war these men were still Americans and should have their memories honored. This hysteria of removing monuments, digging up graves, not allowing flags on graves is sad. It was a rich mans war and a poor mans fight. Just as most Northerners did not fight to end slavery, most Southerners did not fight to preserve it. In 1904 the Confederate monument in Gainesville was erected. In attendance were UNION and Confederate Veterans who both supported the monument. They showed each other respect as fellow Americans. They honored each others dead. Now Tuesday our commission will hear discussions about actually removing this 111 yr old monument because of this media fueled history witch hunt. If this happens, look for them to target Kirby Smith, JJ Finley, and the remaining monuments and graves in our area. Removing the monument does not end racism it only dishonors the American soldier's who died. I hope you will come out in support of keeping the statue and keeping American history alive. We can learn a lot from history and learn nothing by erasing it.

Displaying a flag is an exercise in free speech. You have no right to not be offended, and as a matter of fact the flag didn't even make you offended. You choose to be offended, probably because you don't respect the right of free speech.

How intolerant and unamerican.

Funny you should mention that. Civilized nations honor the war dead. We did not desecrate German war dead after WWII (though Russia did). I was in Normandy the week after the 50th anniversary of D-Day (could not be there during the actual time; more or less restricted to official party, WWII vets, etc). Anyway, I visited La Cambe, the German cemetery, which is down the road from ours at Omaha Beach (which I also visited). There was an artificial poppy placed there by a Canadian vet of the invasion, with a note attached. It said, "Enemies no more after 50 years." It had his unit listed.

All this stuff about digging up Confederate graves says terrible things about some folks in this country. If an Allied WWII soldier can forgive after 50 years, what does that say about those who cannot forgive after 150 years? After all, Nazi Germany was far worse than the Confederacy.

Well folks, Ms. or Mr. Alexias2 has us biting into her game by lodging personal attacks now. I think its time we said farewell to Alexias2 as mentioned in another thread and not respond to any more of her postings, including the new thread posted today. There are many other forums for Him/her to fish for infomation. All he/she is doing is monopolizing this forum with all the BS posts.

So you admitted you think its normal to have a swastika on your car and every time you stop at a traffic stop light, you roll down your window and stick your head out and scream "seigh heel, seigh heel!" at the other cars and old women on the street while doing a nazi salute before then driving off again?

IMHO we should always fly at least three flags- On top Old Glory, below it the Gadsden (Don't tread on me) and the Confederate (or what people have come to perceive as the confederate flag) at an equal height, below those the particular state where they are flown. The Gadsden and the Confederate represent the two biggest events in this country's history that shaped it into the great nation that it is. They both should serve as a constant reminder of the adversity we have overcome as a people. The more we hide our history and refuse to look at it or address the more we will repeat it as we are seeing all across the nation today.

50 Years? I think you need to do bit of history, first world war started in 1946

NO, he did not admit to that in any, way shape or form. You took what
the man said, twisted it completely out of context to the extreme, and
then accuse the man of doing something vile? :angry4:

You're not a day over 25, are you?

Link to La Cambe with good information. There is also a German cemetery near (3 km) the US Cemetery in Luxembourg where Patton is buried; similar situation and looks almost the same. Very somber, not open, white marble, etc., like US cemeteries. I took my dad to all 4 (2 US, 2 German). My dad had 34 years of active duty, WWII, Korea, Vietnam. When we met some German vets, they talked like old soldiers, not enemies.

Worth a read.

Hmmm? No major world war started in 1946. While I am a chem professor, I have a minor in history (specialty, military history). Why would you even post stuff like that?
