I boiled the coffee water to kill the bugs but still got the trot's, now I know why...

Please don't use any soap in any stream as it could affect others downstream.

You know what would save more wildlife? Heavier fines and more regulations for known polluters.

I might have picked up a bad pointer from a random prospector a while back. No soap in the waterway, gotcha.

You don't use "soap" any ways for recovery. People misuse soap vs. a surfactant like "jet dry"....Bubbles...suds...foam, makes fine gold float.... Jet dry breaks surface tension and wont let gold float..When recirc...or blue bowl...or miller table...a few drops is all you need. No bubbles included. Basic rule as mentioned is ....don't put anything in the creek!!

Thanks for correcting me. I didn't know I had learned a bad technique from a random prospector I'd never seen before or since. I promise I not to discharge anything into the waterway other than water and tailings.

Which bring me to a question. What's the best way to wash a pan if you're out in the field?

well if it happened to get oil in it wash it in camp or at home with......SOAP.....no oils ? scrub it out with gravelly muddy water..

Another issue with "clean & release":
Sometimes the birds have already ingested the oil (or whatever).
While you can clean the outside, the birds die anyway from all the internal damage.
Either that, or the cleaned birds are released back into the same dirty habitat and the cycle repeats.
The only real way to save the birds is to avoid the spill in the first place.

Got KP once,. In protest we washed all the dishes and didn't rinse a one of them. Can you picture a platoon worth of guys with the trots. Funny never got KP on that deployment again!

It was a simple mistake (wink wink) And you don't pull blanket parties on an NCO unless you want to be picking up butts for 40 square miles, and go back and do it again to make sure you got em all! And the best part was the only one above me in rank was a dummy 2nd Lt. who got himself choppered out because he soiled his britches in front of a bunch of us. Panty waist was sure he was dying. It turned out OK though, We got rid of the clown before he could screw up things any worse. All & all we had ourselves a fun time.
