Last weekend on Sunday, it was beautiful day after a day or two of some rain.
I had to get out. I was sick and tired of reading about others ( I do love you all though) getting out and I was bound and determined.
So the usual wife response was..."What about us?" "what are we gonna do?"
The first thing out of my mouth was "come with me"..which I started back peddling on, but too late.

I just know that they will get bored and start whining and shorten my time out there overall.
The good thing was that we had some mud and 4 wheeling to do, to get where I wanted samples from.
And they always enjoy that.

Got out to the area that I had a few spots I wanted samples from.
Made my first stop. "we hike from here - Beautiful little canyon with lots to see".
But I neglected to tell them there was no trail. Bush whacking required.
It's not like I didn't warn them to be prepared for hiking etc.
But the Wife and youngest were done in 10 minutes and headed back to the truck.
My oldest stuck with me and we got a good 1/2 bucket of material from where I wanted.

On the way back to the truck, found a promising location and grabbed a 1 gal bag of material there too.
Buy my son was tired carrying the bucket out of the canyon and ended up finishing for him.
I had the back pack with all the tools and water and 1 gal bag o-dirt too.
Marked the two samples and on out way to a few more places.

Stopping at areas for some show and tell (geology of the area as well as the Spaniard history in the area.
Lots of bouncing around and flinging mud and laughing.

Got my other samples as required but the family stayed at the truck for those.
So a little pressure to get back sooner than I wanted. But got em.

So bottom line - I got a little fix of exploring and digging dirt and putting my researching and mapping to use too!!
AND I got the family out with me and they really did enjoy the new scenery and off roading.
Ended the day with an In-n-Out Double-Double Animal!!
So - WIN/WIN/WIN.

Panned all my samples threw the week.
Spot #4 gave me some color!!
Added bonus.

Now I'm chomping at the bit to get out there again.
And my family thinks I'm nuts for the places I am willing to go to find AU.
I love this hobby!!

Cheers

G

Sounds like a good day as well as an opportunity as well G-bone. When you start to pan the stuff down, have the wife help you and teach her how to pan as well. MAKE SURE that there's some gold in the pan you have her do so she gets the fever as well. Being able to have the entire family share the outdoors is something that can't be beat.
