To my untrained eye...I'd say quartz with schist.

Was it found in an area with shale or mudstone nearby?

There's also a rock ID thread in the hardrock mining section and a Rock/Gem section outside of the Gold Prospecting forum you might get help on. Be prepared to offer more information about the rock though.

My geologist wife thinks it's a quartz-mica schist. I defer to her for mineral identification.

Looks like a Galena bearing Quartz vein material... (often found in schist formation zones or just above them where the temp is a tad cooler)
