If things work out I plan on picking up an assay or muffle furnace soon. Now I know I could build one on the cheap. Ive watched plenty of videos on the subject. But I have some projects in mind that also require a bit more than just a hot fire. I want some good temperature control and I even have some use for a vacuum muffle furnace for some experimental work i want to try out involving some advanced recovery methods.
As usual I don't want to spend allot of money, anything over a few hundred bucks I would just prefer to build myself.
I'm wondering what input and suggestions I might be able to gleen from the folks on here.
Should I go gas or electric?
Is there a good scientific surplus around that might have what I need?
Is it practical to just cut a hole and install a quartz tube in a standard assay furnace?
Things of this nature.
