When did claims get grandfathered as far as maintenance fees?

And is there something the claim owner must do every year to maintain the claim status i.e. paperwork?

Thanks.

Grandfathered maintenance? Never heard of such a thing. You pay what the BLM say you have to regardless of when the claim was filed. I think the last change in costs was in what, 2015?

I might be mistaken with this.

Wouldn't be the first time lol.

But I thought if one had a claim before a certain date they didn't have to pay the maintenance fees.

Need to do some more homework.

earlier claims still had to do "Labor", possibly filing at the county or ?
the BLM registry pages on those claims start "Maintenance" reporting in 1992

Beginning in fiscal year 1993, mining
claimants have been required to pay an
annual maintenance fee in lieu of
performing annual assessment work and
making annual filings. Mining claimants
locating new claims or sites must also
pay a one-time location fee. (30 U.S.C. 28f—28l)
Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993?

Labor and an annual public record has always been a requirement since the first mining Acts. There are exceptions for some pre 1955 claims but like I wrote, it's complex.

Was looking at claims from the 1920's up in the Seven Troughs Range of Nevada.

What a wonderful area for mining.

Thanks you guys for the info.
