Here are three examples of rocks that are all over my backyard in eastern Missouri, having been used to border gardening spaces. They're each about 12"-18" x 12" x 6".

Hi! I inherited a bunch of crystals and minerals from my father who was a jeweler. He has since passed away and I am having a hard time identifying what one of them is. It’s lime green in color has rainbow hue to the different “shelves” with in it, it’s very soft I have found since I dropped it on the cement and it broke into 3 pieces. I’m thinking peridot or spodumene? It’s color doesn’t change in shade vs sun, it has a reddish tint where it grew from its source and has inclusions at the growth site. I found this in Southern Ohio. It was on private property it was laying on the side of an old trail all by itself. It was on top of the ground and no other rocks or rock formations were near. It is solid and not brittle. What could it be?Click image for larger version.

I have been a casual rock hound most of my life. Recently my son-in-law brought me a rock that has me a bit stumped. (I think it is a form of eye agate.) He found it at his work site among the large rocks and gravel used for the surface of the parking area for heavy equipment. It about the size of a baseball, but not completely spherical. More of a flattened ball shape. It has an outer layer that is a chalky white and soft enough you can rub off a little bit of white color with your hand, and the white layer can also be broken off easily with a screwdriver tapped slightly with a hammer. The rock has had a rough life and the white layer is gone from most of the two flat sides, showing inner rings of white and grey, that resemble agate and have the waxy silky feel of agate. The inner layer has been broken off with slightly curving sections missing on both flat sides. The outer white layer around the diameter of the flattened sphere shows graduated lines that make me think the harder gray layer is underneath and causing those lines. There are two distinct places in the outer rim of the white layer that show oval shapes that could indicate that the inner, harder rock may have come into an empty space through these areas (maybe a volcanic gas bubble?) and I suspect these two oval shaped areas would show as ringed circles if the white layer was completely gone. I will post as many photos as I am allowed to, and I am looking forward to your opinion of this rock!
