Indians here for CENTURIES. Did they make this?

Walking long the South River in Marshfield MA yesterday I came across this rock. It just looked like it was made on purpose. Anyone?

Hopefully someone will be able to help me here we found these rocks in our garden when we were tilling up the dirt.. I am guessing they are pegmatites?? i live in middle GA if that helps... I'm wondering what all it's made of?? there looks like a bunch of stuff in there, lol... anything worth "harvesting"?? any help would be greatly appreciated?? Oh yeah, these are pics of the rocks dry.. I can take some with the rocks wet if i need to..

Kev123 - Where was it found? It looks like Silver and Cobaltite that has been cleaned and polished.

Annie, yours look like schist.

Bryck, Looks like parts of a quartz vein rather then pegmatite.

I have a rock I have been trying to identify. Found it along a river bank where I was searching after a volcanic wash up. There were no other stones alike it along the bank. Found many quartz, amethysts and a variety of other crystals along with arrow and spearheads.



Magnets do not attract to them.
Both pieces are between 20 - 25 pounds each.
Aside from the silver streaks there are gold and silver flecks throughout the stones.
Also they leave no streaks on paper or concrete.

Picture doesn't look metallic, but looks to be an igneous rock called diorite. If so the lighter material is a feldspar and the darker spots are biotite and/or horneblende. Because it rounded and smooth it has been transported in a river or stream.

Okay cool, and yeah it gives off a constant feed on my metal detector

Gene, can you see any small spheres in there? Look under magnification. Could be glass slag.

IF you don't find the spheres its worth a closer investigation. Perhaps find someone locally to look at it, rock club or someone else knowledgeable in the field.

I have several different specimans that I would love to have identified most were found in oklahoma in tailing piles the debri from mining into a mountain side an some were found out prospecting the land scape while swinging a metal detector

Well, that's a bunch!

First one isn't clear enough to tell.

Second one, quartz
Third, calcite or quartz. Drop acid on - if it bubbles and fizzles its calcite. Vinegar will do.
fourth could be limonite
Fifth is quartz

Uncertain on #6

#7 is quartz with most likely either amphibole or tourmaline.

#8 Epidote or pyroxene

#9 A rock? Without a freshly exposed surface there are very few pointers from which one can make a guess.

#10 Pyrite

#11 Quartz with Limonite

#12 Pyrite again (same rock as #10?)

#13 Quartz with something.

#14 Is it magnetic? If yes, probably magnetite. If no, probably Hematite. If rubbed against a unglazed piece of porcelain, what colour do you get?
