So I think it's gold. Take a knife to it and it scoops out like ice cream. What do you think?

Gold in quartz like that makes really nice jewelry. I've seen cabochon ring with the matrix and they usually fetch pretty high dollar.
Down in the rock section EU Citizen is the most knowledgeable rock/gem hound I know. He could tell you if what I said is correct or not. What are you planning on doing with it?
Nice find and good luck in getting more! HH!

Sorry pics aren't terribly great. Tested it today with the black stone acid test and it strongly passes the 14k test, and the 18k test, you can still see the streak, but it fades slightly...

Thank you all!
I'm in the California sierras. Now for more exploring, to see if it was a loner, or if his family is near by!

Man, that is an awesome find! Congrats! If I found a Quartz rock with Gold in and on it like that one, I would stay out there until I found the Quartz deposit from where it came. Surely, there is a lot more Gold but at the least one or more pieces that should have Gold where your' specimen separated.

By the way, I would advise no more scooping the Gold out or testing, as the specimen is worth a lot more than the Gold it contains.

That looks exactly like the type of quartz I am currently running thru my jaw crusher. Minus all that gold! I have gotten a few grains out of about 20 lbs so far. But man, it looks exactly like your quartz

Looks like gold from the alleghany calif area.

Try soaking it in bleach and the rusty areas may come off.

It does not look water worn so i would start a good grid search up hill from the Xspot.

The bleach won't affect the gold?

Bleach may make rusty stuff turn to gold or err I mean it may clean up the rusty colored gold.

One more little bit I didn't really look at. Just threw it in my pocket for later inspection.
