Please just for the things I have listed...No gold, No Beaches,No relic hunting....Must have target ID....Im on the Gulf Coast area of Texas, and the soil here is about average, not bad, not good...Would like to be able to get to the older stuff if it is there...Thanks gor any info guys (and gals) Tom

I would recommend you get and older Fisher CZ model The 6A or 5 are very good coin machines and are simple to use. Both machines are out of production so you would have to look on e-bay or maybe from a dealer. Look for an add in one of the treasure mags. Either machine should be under $500.00 used.

Well thanks for the info guys......I will look into both...I was thinking of a new MXT, but I think I will go the used route...All I do is coin shoot, so there were things on the MXT that I just did not really need...I've heard alot of good things about the minelabs, but have never got to use one...(would like to try one tho) Have used a Fisher in the past (1260) and thought it was pretty good...I've used mainly whites, and Garret.....I have been to some spot lately where I know there are older coins (found 1918 penny) but my machine just could not go deep enough...I could smell the coins there, but could not get to them...Most frustrating....I know this subject has been beat to death, but I really value ANY replys I can get to this post...Thanks once again, Tom

fisher is on my poopoo list but i have to say my coinstrike works well with coins. there is a 20-50hr learning curve with it. if you make sure you have good consistency of target ID from two angles, your target prediction can be fairly accurate. clad, copper, silver are pretty consistent. nickles/pull tabs take a little more skill to figure out. overall i have to say it does what it was intended for quite well.

the down side is ever since they got bought out, fisher's customer service seems to have suffered.

Thanks very much for your input....I looked at a Garret 1350 yesterday, and a used Fished 1236 x2.....Still looking trying to sort it all out before I put down a big amount of money to me...This will probably be my last detector, so I want to really get the best one for me.....As was suggested tho, I may just wait a month or 2, and see if the new technology does come out....If so there may be some big price drops on the old stuff.....BTW, the 1350 in side by side air testing seemed to have about 2 inches on the Ace 250 on coin sized objects......

For $700, the MXT. It does it all. Everything. Very lightweight, and best balance of almost anything.

Or a Garrett 1350 or 1500. With all their toys. Heavy, but fun.

For a whole lot less ($300) and still a premium, lightweight detector, a Fisher 1236-x2 is tough to beat.

Between a high-dollar detector of a name brand and a cheaper one of the same quality, there is less than 10% difference in depth, as is attested to by Garys Detectors in the UK. The same goes for discrimination abilities.

I put a hearty second in for the CZ series. Simple. Straightforward. Analog, no digital pushbuttons. Easy to learn and deep.

I have the Whites 6000 PRO XL as one of my detectors and in my opinion it is a coin and jewelry magnet. It is the detector I use for most of the little land hunting (parks/playgrounds) I do. I am primarly a beach hunter.

Yeah, I have those detectors and about 10 more than I just play with or have collected. I repaired metal detectors back in the 80's. I use those mentioned but mostly I alternate between the Tesoros, Compasses and the cz. If I could only have one detector though and didn't like to hunt nuggies now and then I'd chose the cz because then I wouldn't have to contend with a lot of tiny pieces of copper wire 1/4" long, or tiny specs of pieces of lead, #8 split shot, etc like the Compasses find so easily, but if I wanted to nugget hunt plus use one of, if not the best cherry picker combined with the best depth in bad soil..I'd go with the Compass R&C or Goldscanner Pro. Or maybe a Compass au2000 or au52, but the latter two don't have meters.

There is a hunk of quartz about 5" in diameter in a Vegas casino that has a speck of gold inside it the size of a dot on an "I". It was found with a Compass au 52. Supposedly it's the smallest nugget ever found with a metal detector and documented. A Fisher Goldbug 2 could (probably) find it too, but it didn't.

A cz would be a good bet for the money but some people b---h about them and finding a lot of old rusty nails. I don't have any trouble with my touchpad cz-70 and have only found 4 nails in the last 3 years, yet some people do have troubles discriminating with such a high-powered detector.. Just a matter of personal choice I suppose.

I didn't read all the responses but I will tell you for a simple, lightweight easy to use machine that finds the heck out of coins you can't beat the Deleon by Tesoro. I have only been hunting since April and I usually only get out about one hour a week and I have three boxes full of stuff found with the machine. The good news is you can usually pick up a used one for around $350.00.

8" or so on a penny.. The MXT won't do that in my mild ground. Look into the Minelab X-70 for your soil down there. Some machines are best in high mineral ground and some do better in low mineral ground, the X-70 does very well in both.

My MXT will see a penny at 8" in my moderately mineralized ground, but will be harder to find if you just buried it or its on edge. Again, its all about getting to know you're machine. This past weekend I pulled a pistol ball out of some bad ground at 8", it was giving a lot of mixed plus and minus signals, but I recognized this as a sign of something being there.

Hey Cane,

That sounds like the MXT's to me too. The one I had for a short time could do the same as you claim. It is probably one of the best two overall recent detectors for sale right now, it and the cz's.

I gotta say here, the CZ series is one of the most UNDERRATED. You don't hear much about them, but they are awesome detectors. :)
