How far have you hiked to...

What is the longest distance you have hiked to reach a spot to detect? What is your typical hike distance?

Jeez, with my arthritis, maybe 1.5 miles. Never anything longer. That in Virginia along Lee's retreat in 1991. Got a breastplate. These days, I want to be able to throw a small rock at my car and HIT IT!

I forgot to say that I have walked two miles a few times. One such two mile hike I did to an old mine site but when I got there the ground was carpeted with .22 shells. It sort of spoils the day. I have another hike in mind that is two miles according to the sign and I wonder if it will be a clean enough to detect. It may be far enough that no body has bothered to hunt it. I have been there in the past and the ground looked relatively clean.

I’ve hiked a few miles, brought in a backpacks nd a gallon of water as none existed at the site. To a great way to spend a couple days.

when I was young there seemed to be no limit to how far I'd walk, now at age 64 maybe a mile at the most

5-6 miles plus - usually when looking for cellar holes

Four miles in, then four miles back out -up hill- with 20 lb of relics.

Metal detecting - probably less than a mile. But most of my hikes are to fossil grounds (Calvert Cliffs) within walking distance of my home. Usually 2.4-2.7 miles each way, but much more difficult since last year's heavy rains caused cliff falls, bringing trees down along the route. So at 64, I climb over and under those trees (some covered with poison ivy, or if locusts, thorns) and around them to chest deep water over slippery clay. I'll walk further on blowout tides because there is no need to climb over or crawl under trees in those ideal conditions.

Always do right; this will gratify some and astonish the rest.
