The faster the eye is moving, the fewer things it will see.
I don't know if Confucius actually said that or not, but my pops said it all the time when I was a boy, and we would be out detecting farm fields, in those early days, I must have walked past a dozen or so arrow heads laying right on the ground.
Pops would say slow down, look at what you missed.
Needless to say I learned to slow my eyes and it has paid off over the years.
Apply that same principal to metal detecting and be rewarded.
