At one of my remote bottle sites today, fresh diggins! Four buckets of bottles, nothing special among them. Horseradish, pepper sauce, olive and ketchup between 1905 and 1920 were set aside from the digs. The buckets themselves were dug out cans and wash basins from the dump.

Problem is, the yahoos have been digging the stuff out of frozen ground and in the process, there were what appeared to be complete bottles that were nice that had been broken in the removal effort. Hometown Eagle beer bottles, beautiful amber and aqua among them along with creamers and dairies of assorted sizes.

Checked the edging of the digs and saw a woman's boot, circa 1890's and behind it in the hole was a nice looking full-length whiskey but it was still frozen, hope it thaws before they dig at it again!! Found one nice crystal bead, maybe a lamp pull, an old screw jack among the remains of a model-T also in the hole and there were more barrel hoops near the barrel makers shop/dump there.

Freakin amateurs!

Maybe a couple of "rolled-up" messages in a few bottles with the
necks sticking out of the ground. . . "Bottle jumpers will be shot on site"

Sounds like a great site. . . hope you find some good glass

Nothing worse in my opinion than following behind people who have no regard for the item, or that can't take the time to retrieve something and leave the ground looking undisturbed.

Hey Mike, I work those sites where the dumps are washouts, gulleys from rain on steep slopes so it's not a matter of closing the ground, but keeping close to the ground. Hard to work when it's slippery, if you fell and rolled down the side, you'd end up looking like you just went through a truly hardcore Samoan tatoo ritual.
